CASCADE CHRISTIAN BEATS DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS!

Playing the team who handed the Challengers their last loss in the 2008 state semifinal game, Cascade Christian was able to pull away in the second half of Saturday's (11/21) game against the 2009 state champion Grant Union Prospectors for a 53-20 win.

The victory moves the Challengers into the state 3A semifinal game against the second ranked and unbeaten Amity Warriors.

Game time is 4:00pm, Saturday afternoon (11/28) at Cottage Grove High School.

CHALLENGERS FACE TOUGH TEST ON SATURDAY!

The 2008 Cascade Christian football team had their run through the state playoffs come to an abrupt end in Bend, OR by the team who would go on to win the 3A state championship.

Grant Union forced two early turnovers in that game to take a two touchdown lead, and never looked back in a 28-13 win.

This year, the Challengers will try to stay away from mistakes against a disciplined Prospector squad.

The quarterfinal matchup Saturday (11/21) in Medford begins at 1:00pm at Spiegelberg Stadium on the campus of South Medford High School.

CHALLENGERS TAKE FIRST STEP TOWARD THEIR ULTIMATE GOAL

The 2006 football season for Cascade Christian was their last at the 2A level of OSAA competition. It was also the year they ended on top of the football world, winning the 2A state title.

It has been 3 years of fighting hard at the 3A level, only to see their division rival, Gold Beach win one state title and finish runner up in another state title game last year.

But in 2009, the Challengers finally got over the hump in winning the Sunset league crown and in the process beating Gold Beach for the first time. Now, they have their sights set on a bigger prize.

On Saturday afternoon (11/14) at Medford’s Spiegelberg Stadium, Cascade Christian began their quest for another state football title with a historic 82-6 win over Warrenton in the first round of the Oregon 3A state playoffs.

Running back Brandon Grissom scored three times, while senior Ben Joffer had two spectacular punt returns for scores, and junior Tyler Stickler also had 2 touchdowns in a lop-sided win.

Cascade Christian will host another playoff game against the defending 3A state champion Grant Union Prospectors either Friday night or Saturday afternoon (11/13 or 11/14). Grant Union was the team that knocked the Challengers out of last year’s state playoffs, in the 2008 3A state semifinals.
